In the heart of château country in southwest France’s spectacular Loire River Valley, American painter Jonathan Robinson and his French partners, Pascal Merillou and Bernard Levenez, spent seven years transforming an 18th century water mill into an elegant inn for small groups and couples...
Located approximately 200 miles/ 321 kilometers southwest of Paris between Angers and Tour, Le Moulin Brégeon overlooks 20 acres of streams, gardens, trails and bike paths. Master Chef Merillou prepares country gourmet meals daily with vegetables from their organic garden, fowl from Le Moulin’s own flock and fish from local streams.
Painter Jonathan Robinson’s passion for beauty “that enriches all the senses” led him to resettle in the “Garden of France,” the Anjou region of the Loire Valley. Calling himself an “aesthetic refugee” who fled the US to escape the spread of strip mall architecture, Robinson’s ability to communicate natural beauty through his paintings (his work has been shown in some of the world’s most prestigious galleries from NY to Cologne) has enabled him to create an authentic paradise for the senses at Le Moulin Bregeon. Working side by side with local craftsmen, he painstakingly renovated an abandoned 19th century water mill into a luxurious B & B, refurbished and decorated in harmony with traditional architecture and culture.
Pascal Merillou grew up in Bergerac, Dordogne, the region of France famous for its food, especially the ‘foie gras’ and ‘confit de canard.' He teamed up with Jonathan while he was taking cooking classes in Paris.
Bernard Levenez grew up in Brittany on a dairy farm. His mother made crepes and his father was a mason. Bernard was living and working in Angers when he met Jonathon and Pascal at a jazz concert given by a mutual friend. Bernard will soon be making fresh goat cheese with Le Moulin’s newly acquired baby goat.
